Tips from a Free Marketing Workshop

I did a 2 hour marketing workshop so you don’t have to!

Shout out to QuadrangleNL and Dawn Gough of the NL Business Centre for hosting a free workshop in November 2025. This is a quick review of the material covered, cut down from a 1hr video where I mostly ranted about AI, education, and how much I suck as an artist. I took all that out and here’s what’s left!

The basics:

  1. Vision Statement
  2. Your Target Market
  3. Digital Audit
  4. AI Cheatsheet
  5. Seize the Opportunity

What I Liked:

The worksheet is re-usable and is a good starting point for thinking about markets.

The workshop outside the worksheet was super useful. She had lots of great insights. Like, she recommended thinking of market research as “detective work” and asking yourself, “What problem am I solving?”

Areas for Improvement:

1) The section on AI was useless to me, and I don’t really discuss it much here. Most AI is a bunch of hype to me, I dunno. The AIs suggested here might be a good starting point for some people, but I felt like they didn’t offer me anything new.

2) More focus on how to implement the advice would be good – like, how do you search for where your markets are? How do you organize and file your audience data? How do you do detective work lol

Follow-Up Notes:

I think, more than marketing right now, what I need is organization. Stay tuned on that.

In terms of marketing, I keep coming back to the first key questions:

“What problem am I solving?”
“Who do I help?”
“What do I provide?”
“How do I do that?”

I’m still figuring it out, but this workshop helped me get a better idea of what I’m doing, and I’m glad I took part. Thanks, Dawn!
